That famous one liner you constantly hear from the kids “I’m boredddddd” can only mean one thing: get those adventure vehicles dusted off and ready to go. But, where to go? Growing up with adventure-filled weekends (and still loving it as an adult), and hearing where our customers head off to with their families had us thinking, we should share some of our favourite places to go. Whether it’s to jump on the ATV, the PWC or the bike, we’ve got the cheat sheet for you.
Just an hour north of Sydney, Glenworth Valley’s Outdoor Adventures is a really great place to get the tyres muddy, while still being a safe spot for the kids to ride. It’s got a bit of a best-of-all worlds feel about it: clear and easy trails, but set against wildlife and bush. They have ATVs and Quads you can hire if you don’t have a vehicle for every family member. Even better, you can camp, glamp or stay at an eco-villa there, and they have stacks of other adventure activities to keep busy: horseback riding, kayaking, abseiling, laser skirmish and even axe throwing if you’re game!
If you love a sand dune ride, Stockton Beach is one of the best places to go. You can get conditional registration of your Can-Am ATV (strictly no SSV’s allowed), and with that you gain limited access depending on the kind of driving you intend to partake in (they’re keeping it safe for all). While you can take your own path, there are circuits available and organised tours. It’s a top all-family adventure, and while you can’t camp on the beach itself, there are heaps of caravan parks and camping areas to set up (that also accommodate ATV parking in some way).
It’s a bit of a drive, but the region that stretches through South Durras (near Bateman’s Bay), Narooma and Tilba is well worth it for a top notch Sea-Doo experience the family will remember for years. Clyde River is perfect for giving the kids a great ride without worrying about any hooning going on around you; it’s for a more chilled ride, with pretty strict rules that protect marine life. If you are after a bit more speed, Corrigan’s Beach is about five minutes’ drive away. There is a Big4 caravan park close by and heaps to do around town to keep everyone happy and loving life.
Thanks to the focus on careful preservation of wild and marine life, Shoalhaven is a great area to take the kids for a Sea-Doo ride that is calm, cruisy and safe. You can’t hit the throttle too hard here, but it’s still loads of fun, with a spectacular view. You might even catch sight of a bottlenose dolphin! (However, you do have to steer clear of entering sanctuary zones). There are many spots to launch your Sea-Doo too, that are typically safe and easy and close by camping, caravan and cabin options.
This is an awesome place for the whole family to rip around a safe track in a beautiful bush setting, at the Great Dividing Range. It’s pet friendly and has tracks and bikes for beginners to the more experienced, and everything in between. Even better, there’s onsite accommodation plus camping lots, so less time in the car every day and true holistic adventure experience. There are stacks of activities too, including movie nights, water slides and mountain biking.
